If you’re planning to get married abroad, it’s crucial to obtain all the necessary documents before leaving. For most situations, you’ll need a Statement in Lieu of a Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad from Canadian authorities. You’ll also need a Statutory Declaration of your Marital Status and notarized copies of official documents and identification such as your Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, and/or Passport. In case of a divorce, you may need notarized copies of your Marriage Certificate, Divorce Certificate, and/or Divorce Order. Additionally, foreign authorities may require the authentication and legalization of these notarized copies by the appropriate authorities before accepting them in the foreign country.
Please note that every client’s situation is unique, and it’s crucial to contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate to confirm that you meet the requirements of the country where you plan to wed. The requirements differ from country to country and may change over time.
