Some foreign nationals may need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa) in order to visit Canada, depending on their country of origin. To apply for this visa, they often need a letter of invitation from a Canadian resident who wishes to invite them.
After the letter is prepared and notarized, the person visiting Canada must submit the original letter, along with their application and other necessary documents, to the Canadian consulate or embassy in their country. The requirements for the visa application are listed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and often on the local Canadian Consulate’s website.
In most cases, visa offices require that letters of invitation be notarized by a Notary Public.
Please be aware that a letter of invitation does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. Visa officers will evaluate applicants to determine their eligibility for a Canadian visa. To ensure that your application package meets the requirements in your jurisdiction, you should check the relevant guidelines.
